Ayah, Mak, Can You Hear Us? Can You See Us?

20 September 2009, Sunday (1 Syawal)

Mak, Ayah, can you hear us?  Can you see us? We longed to visit your new home.

It's now 10:45 a.m, right after the customary ritual of salam and photo-taking among the Al-Patani clans. As our family is rather large, in fact this time around there was less family members, as only 5 siblings are back in Bukit Mertajam, the ritual lasted slightly shorter. It usually lasts anything between 1.5 hours to 2 hours. Two of my brothers decided to celebrate Raya in KL, while another brother left for Melbourne to celebrate Raya with his son who is studying there.

We decided to go and visit Mak and Ayah at their new home. Just after 10.45 a.m. as we were all ready to go and were already heading towards the door, when the first guest appeared at the door.

It was our next door neighbour, Ustaz (the imam of Masjid Tuan Abdullah), his wife and his little daughter. We served them food in the kitchen and were about ready to leave the house again when we heard a salam being greeted.

And this time, it was our cousins, Pak Din and Mak Cah's daughter, Atiah, her hubby, Captain Azahari, her daughter and son. They too were served Hari Raya delicacies.  Later we took the opportunity to be pictured with them as we seldom bump into one another.  It was only on such rare occasions did we get to meet our cousins on my dad's side. She also extended invitation to us to attend her eldest son's wedding on 10 October 2009.

And just as we thought, that that would be the last guests, we had another visit from two other cousins (Pak Long Ismail and Mak Long's sons), Obaid and Zohdi.  And Obaid came with his daughter.

Right after they left, we headed towards the door. It was already close to 12:00 p.m and we wanted to be with Mak and Ayah before the Zuhur prayers. So, we quickly made our way to Mak and Ayah's new home. Some went in their car while others just walked as it's only a short distance away.

Mak, Ayah, all your kids, grand kids are here with you today.  Can you see us?  Can you hear us? We are so very happy to be with you.  We have missed you both terribly. Ayah, Mak, we will always love you. You will always be in our loving memory.
Mak, Ayah, with a heavy heart and deep sadness, we bid you goodbye as we headed back to 9, Jalan Tanah Liat.  May Allah bless both your soul.  Al-Fatihah.
